Q- Do you think healthy eating should be a right, responsibility or a privilege?
A- I believe that eating healthy should be ones own responsibility. Everyone should be responsible for their own well being. You are responsible for your own health regardless of if it is in regards to eating, exercise, or mental health. As an adult it is my job to make sure I am taking my vitamins, drinking plenty of water, and seeing a doctor when needed. It is also my job to make sure that I make healthy choices when it comes to my meals. I would never expect anyone else to make these choices for me. I do not need someone to remind me to take my vitamins so I do not need anyone to help me eat properly.
Q- Kevin's Mother says, "Sometimes it feels like industry was more protected than my son.." What do you think of her words?
A- I think Kevin's Mothers words are truthful! I feel her pain. I could see how she would feel this way in her situation. If something like this happened to me with a child I would feel the exact same way. After her son died, she felt as if no one was willing to help her. All she wanted was for this situation to never happen again to another Mother. I do believe our government should try to protect us from having sick food on the shelves of America. Kevin's Mother said in the video that all she wanted was for the meat company's so say they were sorry for what had happen and to promise to give their best effort in order to make sure it didn't happen to anyone else. I feel that her request was not too much to ask for.
Q- In the film, Michael Pollan says, "We've skewed our food system to the bad calories, and it's not an accident." What does he mean by this?
A- I believe that Michael is expressing how it is cheaper to buy a hamburger from McDonald's then it is to go to the grocery store and buy a head of lettuce. One average it only costs $1.00 plus tax to purchase a hamburger at mcDonald's while it will cost on average over $250 for a head of lettuce at the grocery store. Having it cheaper to buy unhealthy food is not the way our food system should be. When Michael says, "and it is not an accident" I think he believes that the major meat companies did this purposely. They have made it very accessible for companies like McDonald's to get bad quality meat and sell it cheaper then healthy food.
