The members of my group are Idalis and Lisa Donato.
We decided that we wanted to explore the concept of expiration dates and shelf life of common food products.
We specifically wanted to focus Freeganism.
“Freeganism is the practice of reclaiming and eating food that
has been discarded”
It’s no surprise that Americans waste a lot of food. More accurately “One third of the world’s food is wasted in shops, restaurants, farms, factories, and homes…”
Although we are still working to formulate our Primary Research Question we each have contributed some ideas.
One idea I have is: Expiration dates are they fact or suggestion?
This would allow is to explore how long food lasts after the suggested
expiration. If there is associated health risk with saving items past the
expiration date and interview people who don’t believe in expiration
dates.
Another idea we have is to focus mainly on Freeganism.
The word freegan is compounded from “free” and “vegan”. Vegans are people who avoid products from animal sources or products tested on animals in an effort to avoid harming animals. Freegans take this a step further by recognizing that in a complex, industrial, mass-production economy driven by profit, abuses of humans, animals, and the earth abound at all levels of production (from acquisition to raw materials to production to transportation) and in just about every product we buy.
Our primary research question would be: Is Freeganism a Healthy
way of life?
We would research the lifestyle of freegans. Explore the health risks involved. We would also Research data about the amount of food that is
wasted in America.
After talking with my group members we all agree that we are really intrigued by the life style of freegans.
We will be researching this further. We decided that we would like to do a multimodal project that will include photos, data, documentary, and YouTube clips.
We are excited to get started. Check out our progress under the
